National award for Jessica

Jessica Phuang receives her award from Antonia Watson, ANZ Managing Director Retail and Business Banking.

Congratulations to Jessica Phuang, Asian Liaison Officer for Auckland City District, who last month received a prestigious award for her services to the migrant community.

Jessica says she was taken by surprise when she was recognised at the ANZ Lunar New Year Awards, in front of 500 guests and dignitaries at the SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland.

“My legs were shaking when I went up on the stage,” she says. “I was thinking ‘I should have invited the District Commander, I should have invited my husband’.”

Jessica says it is particularly gratifying that she was nominated by members of the community.“For me it’s a reminder to work harder. It’s almost like a wake-up call, to not slacken up.”

The award citation reads: “The recipient of this award is a person whose spirit, sense of responsibility and compassion shows across ethnic and national borders…

“Apart from her day job with Police she also offers herself 24/7 to help and support people as well as communities in need.

“She has already been honoured with a Queen’s Service Medal in 2007 and received honours from the Commissioner of Police, District Commander Auckland City and the Consul General of Japan to name a few.”
