The Queen’s Birthday initiative to lower the speed tolerance to 4km/h coupled with a focus on slow drivers, high levels of alcohol testing and enhanced visibility across all districts saw a dramatic drop in the road toll over the weekend. Only one person died – the lowest figure for 54 years.
