Police and alcohol-related incidents

In a typical day, based on the statistics in the National Alcohol Assessment, averaged over 365 days:

  • Approximately one-third of all police apprehensions will have consumed alcohol before arrest.
  • 57 individuals are either driven home or detained in police custody due to their state of intoxication.
  • 326 offences occur where Police note that alcohol was involved in the offending, including:
  • 26 offences for breach of a council’s liquor ban
  • 98 offences for drink driving
  • 4,239 compulsory breath tests and 2,139 mobile breath tests are undertaken
  • 35 licensed premises are visited to monitor compliance with the Sale of Liquor Act.
