Minister’s Word
A view from Police Minister Anne Tolley
It is an honour to have been appointed Minister of Police in the new Government.
Our police – deservedly – have the trust and confidence of communities across New Zealand, showing leadership and bravery every single day.
Within 24 hours of being sworn in as Minister in December, I had the privilege of attending the graduation ceremony for the 77 recruits of Wing 271 at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua.

These new constables have proved they have what it takes to serve in a world-leading organisation, and the staff at the training college deserve great credit.
It was a moving and uplifting day, and a chance to celebrate with proud families and friends. The important part they play in supporting our police can never be underestimated.
As the graduates take up their first postings around New Zealand, the experience and advice of their new colleagues will be invaluable.
I hope to meet up with them in the year ahead, as I visit as many Police stations as I can.
I wish everyone a happy and safe 2012.
