Police is inviting qualified staff to apply for a place in the Special Tactics Group (STG).
STG members are trained for deployment on high-risk operations such as those involving counterterrorism, tactical roping from helicopters and buildings, maritime incidents, covert surveillance, hostage rescue and complex armed offender situations.
Members are assigned to the STG on a full-time basis. Sections are based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Positions are open to current or past members of the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS). They must successfully complete the STG four-day selection course and three-week qualification course.
“Both courses are challenging but hugely rewarding,” says Senior Sergeant Peter Mallon, STG Training and Development Officer based in PNHQ’s Operations Group. ?
The courses are held on a regular basis.
Ideal applicants are highly motivated, goal focused, mature and practical with a proven history of sound policing and good decision-making, he says. They also have a high level of physical fitness.
